How I Ended Up With a Ticket to Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour Without Being a Swiftie

When your friend asks you if you’d be interested in traveling to Europe next year for a concert, you’re going to say yes, right?

Especially if that friend is asking if you want to go to Dublin in June to see Taylor Swift perform live on her Eras Tour, you’re DEFINITELY going to say yes, right??

If you know me, you know I love a reason to travel to Europe and a reason to celebrate strong women doing their thing, so this seems like a question with an easy answer…… but.

Actually, TWO buts.

The first is that I don’t actually consider myself a Swiftie. If you’re not familiar with the term, it’s essentially the name used to identify Taylor Swift’s ultimate fans. These people are passionate about her and her work, what her music means for them, and her undoubtedly positive impact on society in general and the music industry in particular.

And all of this is great! I’m totally here for mega-fans, but for whatever reason I just never got that into Taylor Swift myself.

I certainly know a lot of her music, especially since I was just starting 6th grade when her debut album was released. And speaking of middle school angst, emotions, and existential soul searching, I spent an afternoon recently listening through the entirety of Taylor Swift (the debut album) and WOW were there feelings of nostalgia and validation - I can certainly see how someone starts down the path of becoming a Swiftie!

All this to say, when my friend (who is a self-described Swiftie) asked me about joining her on the Eras Tour, I had some hesitation because I wondered if I’d be out of place not being a Swiftie. Was it cool to go and be a part of this experience as someone that just respected Taylor Swift as an artist and woman in business, or would I be out of my element?

The second but is that my husband and I had decided to start trying to get pregnant for our second kid… ONE WEEK before my friend asked me about the Eras Tour.

After the longest month ever (it seemed like), we knew for sure that I was NOT pregnant, and I decided that I was going to embark on a deep dive to rediscover Taylor Swift - now that I’m paying money to go see her perform live, I want to know everything about her.

Maybe I’ll become a Swiftie. Maybe I’ll continue to simply appreciate her as an artist and business woman.

One thing is for sure, though - I’m absolutely stoked to join the thousands and thousands of people around the world that are sharing the experience of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour with people they love.

Plus, you know me! I love any excuse to travel.

Now the next big things to work on: deciding where else we’re going to go while we’re in Europe, planning out our trip, and continuing my deep dive into Taylor Swift’s music!

Make sure to follow along on my Instagram page for updates on our trip and how it’s going!
